The Church is not a place. It’s a people.
So far, Tapestry has put that truth into practice by meeting for worship in a non-traditional space, a school! But now, we have the opportunity to dig deeper into what that means as we meet, not in a physical space at all, but online. We will meet at our normal time, 10:30am, and the service will last for about an hour.
But before we jump to logistics, we want to encourage you to worship with us with two brief words about worshipping online.
Online worship is a gift
Can you imagine what would happen if the coronavirus had struck 20 years ago? We would be disconnected from one another for who knows how long. But now, because of the God-given ingenuity of so many people, we have the ability to Live Stream and worship with each other from home! It’s actually pretty incredible, and it’s something we should thank God for.
online worship is a Challenge
That being said, we normally meet in person every Sunday for a reason. Worshipping from the comfort of our own homes can subconsciously fool us into thinking that our relationship with God is purely individualistic and not part of our relationship to Christ’s body, the church. But we believe that we can actually worship together on Sunday in a way that deepens our communal relationship with God, rather than straining it. But it’s going to take engagement from you!
How You can Prepare for and Engage with Online worship
Prepare communion elements. Grab a piece of bread (or cracker, or even a pancake!) and some juice. Consider praying for the church as you prepare the elements. Bring them to wherever you are going to worship in your home. We will still receive Communion together during the service, even at a distance.
Join Tapestry’s Live Stream at Tapestry.Online.Church at 10:30am. In fact, we’d encourage you to tune in a few minutes early to prepare yourself for worship by greeting people through the chat feature, or praying the prayers on the screen.
Worship together! Sing in your home as we sing, whether you’re by yourself or with your family. Respond to the sermon through the chat feature. If you need prayer, there’s actually a button you can press to join a private chat with someone from Tapestry who would love to pray with you.
Hang out (virtually) after the service. You can stay on the Live Stream page and continue to chat for a few minutes. And there will be a Zoom link provided after the service on the Live Stream page. Download ZOOM, click the link on Sunday, and catch up with each other after the service.
We are excited to worship together in a new way! May we each deepen our relationship with God and with each other as we learn how to be the church in a deeper way.
